Committed to offshore and marine technology
As a member of the Marine Equipment and Systems working group in the VDMA (German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association), explosion prevention and protection has always been a top priority for Hradil Spezialkabel. A particular problem during the extraction of crude oil and natural gas is the leakage of flammable gases and vapours during production, transport and storage.
With the new HB44® cable, HRADIL Spezialkabel has developed the first cable that fully complies with the IEC 60079-14-9.3.1 standards. Alfred Hradil, CEO: ‘With our cable, we can guarantee that there will be no more entrainment of combustible substances between zones. The development of this new cable is therefore hugely significant, particularly with regard to the offshore industry.’

Background information: IEC 60079-14
Up until the development of the patented HRADIL HB44® cable, it was impossible to completely rule out the possibility of gas entrainment within the cable. But this new cable has fundamentally changed all that. It is now possible to fully comply with the IEC 60079-14-9.3.1 standards in their entirety. This represents a huge step forward for technology and will benefit everyone working in potentially explosive atmospheres.

The cable from the icy depths
HRADIL Spezialkabel has developed a flexible 5,000V power supply cable, specially designed to cope with offshore temperatures down to -200°C for use on LNG tankers. What makes this cable special is that Hradil has chosen to use pure nickel strands instead of copper.

Hradil HB44® offshore control cable for hazardous areas
Hradil provides the HB44® offshore control cable in a wide range of dimensions, from 3 x 1.5mm² to 36 x 1.5mm². On request, custom sizes can also be produced, for example 2 x 2 x 0.75mm². Hradil has replaced typically used mica tape with a special ceramizing silicone. The flame-retardant, halogen-free and non-hygroscopic compound is inserted into the cable by means of pressure extrusion. All cable cores and shielding are fully enclosed, filling up all capillary spaces in the cable. This means that, regardless of cable length or the type and pressure of gas, flammable gases can no longer seep into the interior of the cable or even be entrained.

HRADIL offshore control and signal cables comply with RINA standards for passenger ships
In addition to RINA certification (RINA certificate ELE019618XG from 25 January 2018), HRADIL offshore cables can also be supplied with DNV GL certification upon request. In order to qualify for the RINA certificate, it must be proved that the patented HRADIL HB44® cables also meet the following standards: IEC 60092-350, IEC 60092-351, IEC 60092-359, IEC 60092-360, IEC 60092-376, IEC 60754-2 and IEC 61034-1/2.
